Rogue Rookie Regatta

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Hear Ye.  Attention all 12 to 24 Month Novice Rowers

Prepare yourself for the Rogue Rookie Regatta, AKA- R3!

On Sunday, August 14th, 2011 from 6:30 AM – 11:30 AM Ashland Rowing Club will host its fourth annual Rogue Rookie Regatta, aka R3!  Entry is limited to those rowers who have rowed for less than 24 months.  There will be no age handicapping, only novice entries are allowed.  Separate entries for Men and Women in 8+, 4+, and 4X races with the final race being a mixed race for both men and women in 8+ boats.

There will be 4 lanes, they are not buoyed, but will have markers at the 500 meter and 1000 meter finish line.  The starts will be aligned starts without stake boats, but aligned by the starters.   All races will be timed, medals and ribbons will be awarded, but more importantly, you will have a racing opportunity to place on your path of novice races.

Race fees are $40 per person, which includes a picnic lunch afterwards, t-shirt and of course possible medals. You will use Ashland Rowing Club’s boats, coxswains, and the opportunity to hotseat in races (that is why there are 15 minute centers).   You are welcome to run one or two races, there may be possibility of heats, so two races could mean 4 races for you, plan wisely. There will not be heats for the mixed 8+ boats at the end of the day.  The mixed races will be race finals.

End of the day awards ceremony will occur in the park, at our annual Greenie (Novice) barbeque.  Cost of the barbeque for non-race participants is $5 per person.  All racers eat for free (Prepaid lunch tickets will be your entry into the Barbeque/Ceremony).

Here is an opportunity to race at minimal cost, as you do not need to haul your boats down, rig and de-rig your boats, haul your boats back to your club, where you again get to re-rig your boats. Instead, come and enjoy the weekend, play in our fine city, and race on our lake, for a small seat fee.  Come and celebrate with us at lunch, and enjoy the rest of the day in Ashland, home of the Shakespeare Theater, Lithia Park, 80 fine restaurants, as well as other outdoor activities to include rafting, golfing, biking, Nature Parks, and Science Works for the family.
